Five communication habits that keep couples close
Good communication isn't about talking more. It's about talking in a way that brings you closer.
By Coach KJ Mensah, founder of AfroDuo and relationship coach
Couples rarely break up because of one big fight. Usually it's years of small misunderstandings. These habits help.
1. Check in daily
Ten minutes without phones, just asking how the other's day really went.
2. Use "I feel" instead of "You always"
"I feel ignored when plans change last minute" opens a conversation. "You always do this" starts a fight.
3. Don't argue when you're hungry or tired
Some talks can wait until morning. It's not avoiding, it's timing.
4. Repair quickly
A simple "I'm sorry, I spoke harshly" after a fight matters more than who was right.
5. Say thank you often
Notice the small things your partner does. Gratitude keeps love warm.
